Obituary for Robert Zupa

Robert P. Zupa of Pompton Plains passed away November 19, 2019 at Chilton Medical Center.

Mr. Zupa was born to Frank A. and Josephine (Pompilio) Zupa on May 14, 1927 in the Bronx, NY, where he spent his childhood and youth. He attended the NYC public schools and graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His studies were interrupted in 1945 when he enlisted at the age of 17 in the Army Air Corps. At that time, Bob served his country proudly during the final years of World War II.
Afterwards, Bob continued his education and received a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from NYU.

Bob worked throughout his career in aerospace engineering at various companies, including Thomas A. Edison Laboratories, Analog Controls, and Commodore Business Machines.
He retired from Pickering Controls Inc. where he served as President and CEO.

In 1979, Bob married the love of his life, Anita (Becchina), and enjoyed a happy life with her on Long Island for many years. Together Bob and Anita travelled to many states and cruised to many islands.

He was a proud American and wore his WWII veteran's cap with pride. He loved to regale his friends and family with tales of his childhood growing up in the Bronx, scouting adventures, playing stick ball on the city streets, and reading adventure stories and mysteries, which he continued throughout his lifetime. He loved watching football on TV, studying and investing in the stock market, keeping abreast politically, enjoying dry Rob Roys with 4 olives, and savoring fine cuisine.

Bob was a man of faith and prayer and served as a lector at his parish in Holbrook for many years.

Bob is predeceased by his parents and step-sons, Tom and Bill. He is survived by his devoted wife Anita, loving brother Frank P. (Loretta), nephew Frank J. (Cristina), niece Laura D'Avella (Bernard), great-nephews James F. and Frank A. Zupa, Bernard J. D'Avella, and great-niece Liliana F. D'Avella.

His memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.
