Loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Friend and Mentor.

Edmond M. Kirby, 83, passed away peacefully at home in Harding Twp. NJ, on Monday, June 15, 2020.

Edmond was born in Newark, NJ, on January 20, 1937 to Maurice P. Kirby, Caherconlish, Limerick, Ireland and Margaret F. Kirby (nee Heavey) Bookeen, Kiltulla, Athenry, Galway, Ireland. He graduated from Sacred Heart Vailsburg 1950, Seton Hall Prep. 1954, Lafayette College 1958, University of Pennsylvania 1961 and was admitted to practice law for the bar of The State of NJ in May of 1963.

He started his career in law with The Erie Lackawanna Railroad in 1963. After which he joined the firm of Dowd and Dowd, of Livingston, NJ in 1966. In 1967 he was invited to become one of the original members of The Essex County Public Defenders Office. He acted as Deputy Public Defender (Essex region) from 1972-1976, when he became The Public Defender. On December 9, 1980, he was sworn in as a Judge of The Superior Court of NJ, Essex County, where he presided judiciously until September 2002.

Edmond retired to Harding, NJ with his beloved wife Patricia, where they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and most often to Ireland. Edmond was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, and would regale all of his many trips (16), to visit his cousins in both Limerick and Galway. He was an avid fan of his favourite group, The Sawdoctors, and all things Irish. He was a voracious reader, and huge ice cream lover (99's)!

Predeceased by the love of his life, Patricia, on June 10, 2019, his parents and his sister, Ann Washington. Edmond is survived by his ever loving sister, Margaret Kirby, his brother, Maurice Kirby Jr. (Yvonne), and his four children, James (Paula), Kathleen (Rich), John (Fionnghuala), and Christine (Domenico), along with nieces, nephews and many cousins in the U.S. and in Ireland.

Private funeral arrangements provided by Doyle Funeral Home, Morristown, NJ Mass Of The Resurrection will be live streamed at on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at 12:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in His Honor's honor to Seton Hall Prep., class of 1954. Feel free to share your memories and condolences at Celebration of his life at a later date.
