Sister Mary Dolores Ferrecchia, MPF

Sr. Mary Dolores Ferrecchia, MPF, 96, died peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020, in Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the Wake and Mass of Christian Burial will be private. However, all are welcome to join the community virtually (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81167874189 Meeting ID: 811 6787 4189) for the Wake Service on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 10:30 am and the Liturgy at 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Ave Maria Cemetery at Villa Walsh. In addition, a public Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date in the St. Lucy Chapel.

Born in Marlboro, Mass, in 1923, Sr. Mary Dolores entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1952. She received the habit in 1953 and made her religious profession in 1956.

Sr. Mary Dolores received a BA degree in French with a minor in Spanish from Good Counsel College in White Plains, NY and MA in French from Seton Hall Univ. in So. Orange, NJ. Early in her educational ministry, Sr. Mary Dolores was afforded an opportunity to advance her expertise in Spanish by residing with the Dominican Sisters of Fatima in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and joined them in their catechetical ministry. Upon her departure the Superior wrote, “We really enjoyed Sr. Mary Dolores’ visit with us; she is very sweet and an exemplary religious. We benefitted a great deal from her good example.”

As an outstanding educator, Sr. Mary Dolores taught language studies in Villa Victoria Academy for over 28 years. She also served as coordinator of students who boarded at the Academy and was highly respected for her oral and written linguistic talents. Sr. Mary Dolores spent over 20 years in St. Joseph, Hammonton, as school secretary and part time French teacher. She was also moderator of the local ASLF chapter. In addition to these fruitful apostolates, Sr. Mary Dolores served the community as delegate to the General Chapter in Rome, and scripted several anniversary productions of the Institute’s historical mission in America.

Following her years of active ministry in education, Sr. Mary Dolores continued to compose literary masterpieces on a full time basis. Enjoying the prayerful atmosphere of Villa Walsh, Motherhouse, Sr. Mary Dolores spent her last several years in St. Joseph Hall Infirmary. Her kind manner will long be remembered by the sisters as well as the staff who cared for her there.

Sr. Mary Dolores is survived by her elder sister, Sr. Josephine Ferrecchia, MPF, and many loving nieces and nephews.
