Obituary for Robert Edward Lundberg

Robert E. Lundberg of Harding Twp., NJ and Venice, Fla. passed away peacefully at home on August 23rd. Robert, the son of Carl and Margaret Lundberg, was born and raised in Walden, NY where he graduated from Walden High School. He then graduated from Drew University where he met his future wife, Wilma (Billie) Lundberg. He attended both Princeton University and University of Virginia for graduate studies. The couple lived in Madison, NJ for 45 years raising two children and both being extremely active in community and civic service.
He was employed with The Pennsylvania Railroad after graduation followed by almost 35 years at The Prudential Insurance Company of America, retiring at age 62 in the position of Director of Personnel. Robert then joined his wife at Weichert Realtors in Chatham.
He served the Country as a Marine in World War II and then Korea, voluntarily interrupting his studies to do so.
Robert’s volunteer work included serving the town of Madison on their Zoning Board as well as the Planning Board followed by several terms on the town council, being elected as Chairman of the Board. Robert coached several different teams in the Madison Little League and then served as President of the town Little League. He was a long time member of The Madison Golf Club serving on their board for years ultimately being elected President of the Board. He was also a member of Canoe Brook Country Club and The Plantation Country Club of Venice, Florida. Robert also served on the Board of The Grace Church Counseling Center’s Board. He also volunteered for dozens of years at Drew where he was honored with the Distinguished Service Award. Robert was recognized by the Madison Jaycees as “The Man of the Year”. In typical fashion, he freely gave of himself to help others.
He was always an accomplished athlete gaining a scholarship to Drew University where he lettered in baseball and basketball. He was drafted by the old St Louis Browns of The Major Leagues as a shortstop. Robert was inducted into the Drew University Hall of Fame.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Billie, and his sister, Esther of Walden, NY. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Romano of Bernardsville, NJ and his son and daughter in law, Eric and Christine Lundberg of New Vernon, NJ, as well as four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren a niece and a nephew and their children and grandchildren.
He loved and adored his family as well as nature and animals, and gave freely of himself. He will always be remembered for his devotion to family, strong morals, hard work, determination, compassion, caring, spirit and Love.
