Obituary for Earl “Hoot” Fennimore

Earl Robert “Hoot” Fennimore, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2020 while at home surrounded by his family.

Hoot was born in Morristown on March 30, 1930, graduated from Morristown High School and was a lifetime New Vernon resident. Since Hoot was musically inclined and could play many instruments, his close pals gave him the nickname, Hootenanny during his late teenage years and later shortened it to Hoot. He was a life-long nature and animal enthusiast, grew bountiful vegetable gardens, loved fishing with buddies, was an avid reader and passionate recycler.

Hoot started his career as a residential carpenter with Patrick Burke of New Vernon and later a mason, working alongside his late brother, Marvin “Skip” Fennimore for many years. When the Korean War called, Hoot served in the Army and National Guard receiving an Honorable Discharge after training soldiers in artillery and gunnery and receiving a Sub-Machine Gun Expert Badge. At the time of his passing, Hoot had served as a member of the New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department for 71 years and was its longest serving member.

Hoot is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Corinne “Renee” Bruns Fennimore, children James E. Fennimore and wife, Carol, Jill C. Barry and husband, John, Carol L. Wilmore and husband, Scott, Thomas R. Fennimore and wife, Aimee, his grandchildren Selena Fennimore and Cole Fennimore, his sister Joyce Young and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Robert Fennimore and Mable Fennimore and brother, Marvin “Skip” Fennimore.

Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time. In lieu of flowers, you may direct any donations to the New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.
