Obituary for Alice Hagensen

Alice G. Hagensen, born Dec 22, 1927, passed away on May 5, 2020 at the Regency Grande Nursing Home in Dover, NJ at the age of 92. She was born and raised in Morristown, NJ and lived there until moving to Dover in 2016.
Alice was a true historian of Morristown and loved being a member of the community, She always went back to her childhood times and would reminisce about knitting and crocheting around the fire with her beloved mother and grandmother as there was no tv! She would always welcome you to her home with a cup of tea and an Irish biscuit. Her family raised chickens, goats, as well as cats & dogs. She had a great love of animals and will miss the many cats & german shepherds she adored in her lifetime.
She held several jobs in the area and eventually retired from Crum & Forster Insurance Co. She was extremely proud of her Irish and Scottish heritage. Her family settled in Morristown prior to the turn of the century.
Both her brother Vincent Galligan and her son Vincent Hagensen served as professional career firefighters for the Morristown Fire Department from which they both retired. She was tremendously proud of their service to the community.
She and her husband were active in the US Army’s 88th Infantry Blue Devils Association and enjoyed their many luncheons and association activities.
On all occasions, Alice would always tell us to “Make a Memory”. A reminder to us of what life is about. Please raise your glass or a cup of tea today with a kind memory of our beloved Alice. We will miss her feisty nature and her love of her family.
Alice is survived by son Alfred Hagensen Jr. and his wife Melanie of Dover as well as her grandchildren Mary Hagensen and Elise Hagensen, nephew Patrick Galligan, nieces Maureen Galligan and Christine Gero and many others. She will also be remembered by her nephew Sonny Hagensen and Peggy Macaoay. She is predeceased by her husband, Alfred Hagensen Sr, and her son, Vincent Hagensen.
A service will be held at Doyle Funeral Home in Morristown on Saturday May 9, 2020 for immediate family only due to the COVID19 restrictions. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery in Morris Township. A celebration of her life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to honor her son and brother can be made to the Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Foundation at tunnels2towers.org.
